Chairman’s Address

Dear Parents and Guardians,

There are many ways to be educated and many subjects that can be studied.

A good education is one that teaches a student to think. Ancient Indians, Mesopotamians and the Greeks were taught to think. They were cultivated on an individual level so that they knew how to conceive ideas on their own. Students were shown how to appreciate poetry, music, arts and mathematics. They carried their education of thought into their government and their ways of life. The teaching at schools laid the foundation for life and helped make students into notable citizens. Today, with our set way of teaching we are not encouraging individuals to think. We are headed towards a standardization of minds. Being educated is being able to be caught up into a world of thought.

The call to have children as young as 8 or 9 years old “college- and career-ready” does not create the same narrative as building a sound foundation in childhood filled with play and creativity. Among the many other more important ways to engage the hearts and minds of our youngest students, we must promote the childhood experience in all its wonder.

A school is a place of respect and wonder. The search to create, discover, reveal, and share is an unending journey that should happen in a school: the child immersed in beautiful poetry, the student acquiring the skill of using a water colour-paint brush, expressing through different forms of puppetry, the rendering of a museum-quality display of artifacts. Scientific experiments mixed with magic, research papers, debates, and discussions and plays centred on classic literature and epics are the means through which students explore and discover ideas.

Words matter especially when introducing a school. The school’s brick and mortar are only a small part of the story. The academic and emotional climate, both inside and outside the physical space, gets us closer to an understanding of what forms the basis of any school. At Endeavour Global School we have an interesting and well-crafted curriculum. It has two equal halves, one inside the classroom and the other half outside the classroom referred to as the ‘Gymkhana Half’.

My long journey as an educator, visits to numerous schools  when serving on their board of governors and my daily ‘roaming on the campus’ as principal, gave me an inside look at what constitutes a school which  can provide quality  and inclusive education. Above all, we are privileged to have an outstanding School Board of Governors comprising eminent educationists and renowned personalities from Asia with a deep understanding of pedagogy from diverse fields. They have come together to build a temple of learning for students from Asia.
